10 Things I am Thankful For
- Time to reflect on reasons why I am thankful
- The little things in life like beautiful sunsets, the sound of rain outside my window, the way my dog’s fur shines in the sunlight, certain smells that are unique to the season like autumn leaves, the first snow or the smell of rain in the air
- Things that are soft. Fabric, like fleece, voices so soft you have to quiet your mind to hear them speak, baby’s skin, hearts that aren’t afraid to show their tears
- Water. Drinking water that quenches thirst. Water to wash off the dirt. Water to swim in. It’s life giving, life saving and life enriching.
- The power to choose. Choosing eliminates should’ve and shouldn’t from our dialogue. It has always come down to choice, that of our own, or that of someone else’s affecting the outcome of one or many. It’s not about busy or victim or regret it’s about life and taking it one decision at a time. I may not always have a choice about what happens to me, what good thing or tragedy awaits me, but I do have the power to choose how I deal or not deal with it.
- Time to rest, to take a nap, to shut my eyes and relax for a little while. Rest results in becoming refreshed and renewed. Rest of the body, mind and soul
- Family and Friends. Each one different from the next and from me. Somehow we create a beautiful puzzle that has a unique picture when it’s all put together at the end. When it is viewed from a distance the faces and faith make a clear picture when placed together as they are designed to fit together.
- Faith. The current that carries me down the stream of life. The anchor that I hold to in troubled times. The purpose I have when I feel lost or misguided. The breath of grace and mercy and peace poured out to me, so I can pour out on others.
- Age. Youth when all things are possible, dreams are endless, limitless. Adult when things are not what they once seemed, reality different than things once dreamed, memories of youth still projects me further down the road, living more in the moment because it’s busy and demanding and then old age creeps up and there are dreams again not of what tomorrow will bring but what was done yesterday, the joy and pains that brought me to this day.
- Silence. It’s okay not to have words to say out loud. It’s okay to speak only with ones eyes or heart or actions and then to be heard the same way. Silence is golden.
